Center for Immersive Media - University of the Arts
This page will serve to document my time and all the various projects I’ve worked on at the Center for Immersive Media (CIM), a technology research and engagement center at my school University of the Arts.
As an assistant technician, I helped create and work on various research projects, as well as guide and facilitate classes that took place in, or worked with the CIM. My primary responsibilities typically focused around acting as a technical and visual artist within Unity.
Projects include:
Creating abstract visual particles using the Unity built-in particle system and modifying some simple code to work with our Qualisys Motion Capture systems to create a touchscreen-based experience, facilitated with projection mapping.
Working with the Jefferson Hospital to create a 3D VR recreation of one of their most active and busy floors, in order to facilitate a redesign project with other external partners to improve the working environments for nurses and doctors and help alleviate burn out.
Creating, editing, and animating some 3D models for using in a dramatic play about the Greek-Syrian Refugee Crisis, a collaborative project with the School of Theatre.
Creating templates for ambisonic and surround sound experiences in Unity, utilizing Oculus VR headsets, motion tracking, wireless headsets, and a quad speaker setup in the main studio space. This would be used for a “Designing Sensory Experiences” class as a template for the presentation of their final projects.
Working with the Qualisys Motion Capture systems to track various rigid body 6DOF objects, for use in various projects, as well as working with performers from the School of Dance to capture AIM models, allowing both captured playback as well as real-time capture.
Guidance and assistance with various VR exploration classes, introducing students to the art making capabilities of VR using Oculus VR headsets. Such classes included introducing Illustrator students to the benefits of sketching ideas in VR, and introducing Animation students to the benefits and unique workflow of animating in VR.

(NOTE): The University of the Arts, ran into a “sudden” financial issue, lost its accreditation, and was suddenly closed down. So the link to the official CIM site will likely break sometime soon.
That said, you can learn more about my process with the software, and the various projects we worked on using it by clicking the link below, or simply exploring my CIM Blog page.
